Week 3

TWITTER/FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM AND ADVERTISING/PR

Someone who I view the queen of social media is Kylie Jenner. Whether you love the Kardashians or hate them, most people are always interested in what they are doing with their lives and they use things like Social Media to update us. Kylie Jenner became famous for her big lips, so famous that people all over the world were doing something called  "Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge”, and for most, it didnt turn out so well.

To Kylie's advantage, she used the love for her lips to create something called “Kylie Lip Kits” under her company Kylie Cosmetics. The Kylie Lip Kits released on November 21, 2016 and the world went crazy, so crazy that the lip kits on Kylie's website sold out in seconds. Todo this, of course she used all of her social medias to promote her new brand. Every single social media Kylie has, she uses to promote her band as well as her brand having its own Twitter/Facebook/Instagram accounts. Even though her brand started out just as Lip Kits, it has expanded into a whole Kylie Makeup Line and people are still OBSESSED. Is it because they love Kylie or because they truly love the product? I'm not sure.

Kylie uses all her accounts to tell her fans release dates, photos, new products and more but I have realized Snapchat is where she is most active on showing sneak peaks.

The effectiveness of this campaign and of Kylie Jenner’s brand is off the charts. Of course, when it first came out everyone was talking about it and went crazy. Like I said before, it sold out in seconds. Of course like every hype it has died down but Kylie makes it a clear goal of creating and coming out with new products to keep her buyers and fans interested. The target audience is makeup wearers and lovers and of course Kylie fans. It is definitely working and extremely effective. Kylie has a strong fan base and is a powerful influencer. She is very popular on social media and is great at advertising her products and making sure they sell.

If I was the Product Manager of Kylie Cosmetics I probably wouldn’t change much with the advertising aspect of the brand. The only thing I would change is the packaging used. There has been a giant controversy with other influencers and makeup brand creates accusing Kylie Cosmetics of copying their packaging. I would make sure the packaging was a brand new and unique design to Kylie’s brand as well as the advertising pictures used to promote the brand. No one wants a "copy cat" brand and no creater wants backlash or drama for their product. It may be hard to think of something new, but it is important.

PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES

The Commercial That Works!
“Know The Truth, Spread The Truth”

Know The Truth, Spread The Truth is an anti smoking campaign targeted towards young people to stop smoking. This company makes many different advertisements to keep it interesting and get the word out about what could happen if you continue smoking. The commercials provide facts and true stories to change peoples mind about smoking and to show how dangerous it really could be. Know The Truth, Spread The Truth stands out to me because I can see its effectiveness. It is strict and nothing is sugar coated, made to show the real dangers. The target audience for this commercial would definitely be young smokers. It persuades people to stop smoking and realize how beneficial it would be on your mind and body to quit. It has a way of scaring people and has a sense of emotion behind the advertising especially showing real people tell their stories. In my opinion, these techniques definitely work and it is a great campaign to stop not only teen smoking but smoking in general.

The Commercial That Doesn’t!
PS3 Baby Commercial

The PS3 Baby Commercial is an old commercial I recently saw pop up again on my Facebook a few days ago. I watched it because the preview picture looked weird and interesting, although when I watched it there was nothing interesting about it but it was definitely weird. This commercial was made to promote the new PS3 11 years ago and after watching it I had no want to ever buy a Play Station.  The commercial shows a fake doll baby and a Play Station in an empty room, and that is pretty much it. It was not a single bit effective in my mind. The only thing that stood out about this commercial was how strange and creepy it was. The target audience for this commercial is video game lovers. Since I don’t enjoy nor understand this advertisement, it is hard for me to find the persuasive techniques Play Station was trying to use. They were definitely trying to get people to buy their product, but I think they could’ve thought up something less weird. Although, most Play Station commercials to this day have always been a little weird. In this particular commercial, I think Play Stations techniques failed. This commercial would never get me to buy a Play Station.
